hmm...I am thinking about why I was completely unimpressed with that illustration. I'm working on it, maybe it is just a bad attitude but I am thinking about it. I'll let you know.

Do you know who this guy is Lisa, or where this is from? Some conference?

It's still encouraging to be reminded that God holds us in His hands.

Oh, I know the name. I think we sing some of his songs at church--or at least I see his name sometimes in the credit section down at the bottom of the slides.

My parents were telling me that watched some video by him at their church. Apparently there he talks about creation and all it's magnitude, and then relating it back to the Creator-God we serve--but I haven't seen it myself. They liked it though.

common cgl don't you see the aesthetic beauty of it?

I do see the aesthetic beauty of a molecule of laminin (though I could cite items in biology of far more beauty) but I don't think he does see anything inherently beautiful about the molecule. The excitment he has concerning the molecule is that its in the shape of a cross. At the risk of sounding blunt, it kind of sounds like the face appearing in the grilled cheese sandwich.

I haven't watched the video (the sound on the computer here in the basement if having issues), but I've seen Louie Giglio "in concert" so to speak with Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman (which was a great show, btw). I think he's contributed on some of Chris' songs, which is probably why you've seen him listed in the credits on the song slides at church. I think Chris and Louie are involved with a number of things together.

When I saw Louie, instead of going "in," he went way "out" using pictures from NASA, etc. and the pic with the most distant shot was some nebula or something with a cross in the middle.

When Tim brings his fancy schmancy computer home I'll have to watch the video.

:) Sorry for the long comment!

cgl... I think I get what you are saying and as Tim and i talked about it, He reminded me that it is somewhat about emotions and stirring them. I in a sense appreciate that, and also can feel manipulated...so maybe I get what you are saying. BUT if i am going to have my heart stirred, i guess i want it to be in relation to Christ :)

Amanda: was that a Passion 'concert'?

Amanda said...

lisatatj - Probably. I bought a t-shirt and it showed up on the statement as being bought from "Passion."

Understandably, I do not think on the emotional side of things and often (too much) scoff at the emotional. I am only curious if his methods are legitimate means of creating an emotional response about the cross. Clearly, there is nothing wrong with emotions concerning the gospel and we should have deep emotions. Now that I am thinking more about it though it might just be that I don't get it and therefore I am not moved. I don't understand why a nebulae or a protein or cloud (whatever) that is shaped like a cross exerts those emotions. Or maybe I am frustrated that he misses the real fascinations of creation (in my biased opinion) or maybe I am just hardened and should be more moved upon viewing the cross.

Amanda & lisatatj: That NASA stuff sounds like what my parents were describing to me. Maybe they saw the same video. They said it was pretty impressive.

Hey all, I found the "out" that I'd seen Louie talk about a few years ago. A photo can be seen here.

It was kinda amusing to hear the audible *gasp!* of the people around us. :)

Oh, sorry, I should have also said that the pic was taken from the Whirlpool Galaxy.
