I was thinking of a friend of mine today when I read this in Randy Alcorn's book "Heaven"

"Reformer John Calvin wrote, 'If we consider to what end God created foods, we shall find that he wished not only to provide for our necessities, but also for our pleasure and recreation...With herbs, trees and fruits, besides the various uses he gives us of them, it was his will to rejoice our sight by their beauty, and to give us yet another pleasure in their odours.'

We won't 'need' fine meals; we don't need them now. But we enjoy them now for the same reason we'll enjoy them then--because God made us to enjoy them and to glorify him as we eat and drink (1 Corinthinans 10:31)"

Do you think there will be cilantro in heaven? Do you think with heavenly-improved cilantro and heavenly-improved taste buds, you'll like it? :-)

wow, this has gotten my brain going!!!!!

do you think there will be less pleasurable things in heaven?? that we may not like, so that we enjoy the wonderful things more????

Off the cuff tho....no, i don't think cilantro will be in heaven.....YUK!!!! but it may be in the place that God created for you, cuz i think he may be preparing little places for each of us ...and my little place will probably not have cilantro ;) just a couple random thosts (not found in a verse that i can quote :)

So do you think God's preparing a special little beach just for you? :-)

I think there has to be cilantro: the Bible does say He's preparing a feast for us. How can you have fine cooking without cilantro? :-) ...smiles...

as a matter of fact, I do (like to) think (let's say imagine, that is a better word)that God is preparing a little place for me, and knowing my love of the beach, it seems like 'my place' would be a beach.... I don't know....just part of my dreaming about heaven...

I think the feast may have cilantro involved, but I will pass on that dish.... anyway you didn't answer my question mwh!

Well I figured if you and Tim could duck out of answering my questions with such a "cutsy" little response, I'd give it a shot too! :-)

Honestly, though, I didn't realize that I had missed your question. I'll (gladly) answer here shortly.

That's an interesting question. I had never thought about that issue before. God consistently seems to glorify himself through diversity (i.e., He made us all different). So I think He might continue to glorify Himself (and bless us) through diversity of pleasures. I think it is quite possible for there to be things in heaven that you don't like but aren't necessarily sinful. For example, my wife likes to have her feet rubbed, but I can't stand to have my feet rubbed (I'm way too ticklish!). So I think in heaven Katie might get foot massages and I might not. At the same time, I don't think in heaven we'll have to have relative gratitude; in other words, I don't think there will have to be bad things in order to make us appreciate the good--I'm hoping for a more purely thankful heart in heaven!! But I do think there could be good things that we enjoy to differing degrees in heaven. At least all this is how I "imagine" it will be. :-)
